Short and Sweet

A container is a way of bundling up code and its dependencies so that an application can easily be run on different computers.

More Info on Containers vs. VMs

Old way: one server per application (?)

VM Way: Code, dependencies _and_ the operating system are packaged together.

New Way: just the code and dependencies. You can put more containers on a server than VMs because they don't need their own operating system.
